GENERAL CAR SECURITY

Policyholders should endeavour to follow simple rules to prevent incidents/accidents that could potentially be very costly.

1. Always remember to lock your car when leaving your vehicle. This includes whilst paying for fuel at a service station, popping into a corner shop, buying a parking ticket at your local supermarket, this may seem simple, but it is often adhered to.

2. Close windows and sunroofs when leaving your car unattended for any period of time.

3. Do not leave bags, mobile phones or other items in full view of passers by whilst away from your vehicle. This will prevent opportunist from breaking into the vehicle to steal your property.

4. Fit your vehicle with a security system and immobiliser if not already fitted as standard. Trackers do not prevent cars from being stolen, but can assist the quick recovery of a vehicle if stolen.

5. Purchase locking wheel nuts for each wheel, expensive alloy wheels are an easy target for thief's.

6. When parking your vehicle, make sure that it is in a visible position in a public place, check for video surveillance camera's or areas with security personnel. When parking at night, make sure that the parking area is well lit to minimise the chance of a break in.

7. Steering wheel locks may seem basic, but they are another visible deterrent and are an inexpensive way to protect your vehicle.
